Biography/History

Knox graduated from Walker High School at age 14 and Nevada High School at age 16. He received his Bachelor of Science degree in agriculture from the University of Missouri in 1951. He served in the U.S. Navy in the South Pacific during the aftermath of World War II. Knox worked for the Columbia weather bureau, and his weather reports were broadcast on KFRU for several years. He then worked for the A.S.C.S. division of the U.S. Department of Agriculture for 32 years until his retirement in 1985. Knox was an accomplished harmonica player for several folk music groups and was featured on many recordings. He spent many winters in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas playing in nightly jam sessions with musicians from around the world. He also was an avid bird-watcher.
