Biography/History

Alva Bunch was born May 6, 1907 near Bee Bluff on the Current River to Jesse and Louritta Bunch and passed away August 24, 1989 at Wentzville Park Care Center at the age of 82.

He completed seven and a half years of Elementary Education at Bee Bluff School. 

On December 1, 1928 he was united in marriage to Bernice Irene Eudy at Eminence, Missouri and to this union six children were born: three sons, Gale, Gerald, and Jessie, and three daughters, Norma Thompson, Irma Baker, and Sandra Robinson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, Gale Bunch, one grandson Stanley Thompson, one granddaughter, Sharon Matlock, and two sisters, Racie Herron and Gracie Williams.

He is survived by his wife, Bernice, two sons, Gerald Bunch of Rogersville, Missouri; Jessie Bunch of Imperial, Missouri; three daughters, Norma Thompson of Wentzville, Missouri; Irma Baker of Salem, Missouri; Sandra Robinson of Nevada, California; two sisters, Clara Bland of West Eminence, Missouri; Pearlee Williams of Ellington, Missouri; three half brothers, Noah Wood of Apple Valley, California; Joe Vardi Wood of Eminence, Missouri; Ray Wood of Midridge, Missouri; two half sisters, Stella Spurgeon of Eminence Missouri; Nel Melugin of St. Louis, Missouri; 15 grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren. He was self-employed most of his life, working at various trades. 

He worked in the timber as a bolt and log cutter, then as a fishing guide on the Current River for Bales Boating company for many years. He was also an owner operator of a school bus for 13 years. He always lived on a small farm with cattle and hogs, but probably what he is better known for throughout his life is his chair making, which he learned as a young boy from his stepfather, Joe Wood.

He committed his life to the Lord in March of 1989.  He was loved by his family and many friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, August 26, 1989 at the Duncan Funeral Chapel in Eminence with Rev. Lloyd Welch officiating.  Interment was in Shannondale Cemetery under the direction of the Duncan Funeral Home of Eminence.
