Sidy Maïga is a master percussionist from Bamako, Mali, West Africa, who specializes in djembe and dun dun.  Though trained in the complex traditional rhythms of Mali, Sidy is also well versed in Caribbean and hip-hop rhythms.  He has performed with a variety of different artists, including Percussion Fassia du District de Bamako, Troupe Artistique du District de Bamako, Coumba Sira Koîta, Saly Sidibé, Mamoun Sidibé, Paye Camara, Touman Diabaté, Binké Traoré, Tata Pound, Troupe Baden’ya, The Jamal Jackson Dance Company, New Works World Traditions and many others.

From 2006 through 2009, Sidy was the Master Drummer in residence at Providence's Black Rep Theater.  Currently Sidy is the drummer in residence for Boston's Uhuru Afrika.

In 2007 he was the headline performer for the Heritage Day Festival at the State House in Providence, RI.

A gifted teacher, Sidy has taught percussion in New York, Ohio, Connecticut, Massachusetts and Providence. He has taught workshops in schools throughout Rhode Island, including the University of Rhode Island, Rhode Island College, Brown University, Norwood Elementary School in Warwick, the Reynolds School in Bristol, Waterman School in Cranston, and Lincoln School in Providence.  In the summer of 2009 he was a featured facilitator at The Episcopal Conference Center in Pascoag RI. Sidy has also taught after school programs for the Vartan Gregorian School and the French American School.  Sidy facilitated an intensive 2 week artist in residence program at the Trinity Academy for the Performing Arts.  At Fitchburg State College recently, Sidy taught a workshop for music professors from neighboring colleges and universities.

In 2011, Sidy was named the RI State Council on the Arts Folk Arts Fellowship winner and was selected as one of the MacColl Johnson Fellows for Music Composition.

He has taught an apprentice for two years in the Southern New England Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program, Year 17, 2014-2015 and Year 18, 2015-2016
