Dan Foster is a musician and tutor specializing in the highly ornamented fiddle playing traditions of Ireland and Scotland. He was classically trained in violin study from a young age before discovering the fiddle tradition in his late teens. He immigrated to Connecticut from the British Isles in 2015 and has quickly assimilated himself into the lively New England folk and traditional music scenes.

Foster graduated in 2014 from Newcastle University’s International Centre for Music Studies with honors in his Bachelor of Music. During the course of his undergraduate studies, Foster also earned an Erasmus Student place at The Irish World Academy at the University of Limerick where he learned with master fiddle players such as Eileen O’Brien. Dan Foster currently plays across North America as a live musician for Irish step dancing, is a performing member for shows across the country with the gypsy swing folk outfit ‘Caravan of Thieves’ (founded by Fuzz and Carrie Sangiovanni), and is a current master folk artist for The Southern New England Traditional Arts Apprenticeship Program where he delivers intense one-on-one workshops to his fiddle apprentice at his private South Windsor teaching studio. This long standing and prestigious program is primarily funded through the National Endowment for the Arts.

Foster has many active musical performance and studio recording projects lined up for 2017 and he will be appearing at many venues across the New England Region and beyond with a new trio named ‘Daymark’ which consists of Piper/Irish flautist William Woodson, guitarist Eric McDonald with Foster on fiddle.
