Summary
Collection comprises fieldwork materials gathered in partnership between the Maryland Folklife Program of MSAC and the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation for two projects: the Folk and Cultural Traditions of the Delmarva Peninsula: an Interpretive Resource Guide booklet project (published 2003), and the From Bridge to Boardwalk: An Audio Journey Across Maryland’s Eastern Shore Book and CD project (published 2004). These materials include oral histories with watermen and commercial fishermen in the Chesapeake and Delaware Bays, the settlement of former Latino migrant workers in commercial fishing ports in the Delmarva peninsula, reminiscences about the construction of the Bay Bridge that connected Maryland’s Eastern and Western Shores, the region’s diminishing skipjack fleet, the poultry industry, and the transformative powers of the tourism industry on the entire region. Minimal archival processing has been performed.
