Summary

Collection consists of more than one thousand digital photographs by Western Folklife Center archivist, Steve Green, documentating and portraying roadside death memorials in the western United States, primarily Nevada, Idaho, Colorado, California, Arizona, New Mexico, Utah, and Texas. Images are arranged chronologically in folders /  directories with brief metadata indicating the location of each memorial. Approximately 30 images exist as color ink-jet prints. Also included are occasional clippings and other collected materials relating to roadside memorials (sometimes called "descansos"). The collection remains open and is periodically updated with new images as they are received and processed.  —Created by Steve Green, 1999-present
