Summary
The Manuscript Materials consist of Administrative Materials and Research Materials. Administrative Materials document the planning process and implementation of a well-researched exhibition, as well as the changes made to the exhibition due to reduced levels of funding or achieved through a reallocation of funds. Included are grant materials, budget materials, correspondence, release forms, pamphlets, and correspondence and loan agreement forms with the various exhibition sites. Grant materials for the National Endowment for the Arts include the grant application, funder guidelines, budget details, supporting materials and correspondence, and the final project report. Grant materials of a similar nature for another funder for this exhibition, the Fund for Folk Culture at the Lila Wallace-Reader’s Digest Community Folklife Program, are also included in the administrative materials. Materials for the Wisconsin Arts Board funding for this exhibition seem to be incomplete or missing. Other administrative materials include introductory letters to potential artists to encourage participation in the project, response postcards, publicity materials, invitations to the opening, copies of CCC newsletters with announcement of the exhibition, copies of publications in which the exhibition was reviewed, and copies of the resulting directory of folk artists. Research materials for the exhibition consist of field reports on the artistic traditions and potential artists for project inclusion prepared by James P. Leary, Janet C. Gilmore, and Mary Zwolinski, and include correspondence and slide indexes.
