Guillermo de Bango was born in Havana, Cuba, on February 10, 1928. He became a schoolteacher in 1950, earned a PhD degree, and was the First Minister of Technical Education in 1959. De Bango served ten years as a political prisoner and seven years under house arrest. He followed his wife and children to New Orleans, La., in 1979. He founded the Fundacion Hispano-Americana de Arte Cervantes, a school to teach classic and modern Latin American art, music, and dance. Guillermo de Bango died on April 10, 2009.
