The University of Wyoming American Studies Program has a public sector track and employs a public folklorist in a research position. Job duties include conducting fieldwork statewide, supervising graduate assistants who also conduct fieldwork, developing public programs, and teaching.
ARCHIVES
The original public folklorist position was established in 1985 and lasted until about 1993. It was re-established in 2009 and is now a permanent academic professional position. Field materials from the previous folklorist were transferred to the American Heritage Center on campus, and that will be the ultimate repository of all future field collections. Current materials are all in digital formats, but have not been completely cataloged and are not ready for transfer to the AHC.
