Biography/History

The Columbus Sister City Project began in 1986, truly coming into its own in 1987 after successfully lobbying the Columbus City Council to establish a formal Sister City relationship with the Salvadoran village of Copapayo. The organization was highly active between 1986 and 1992, working to raise awareness of the conflict in El Salvador, end US involvement in Central America, raise funds and collect donations to aid in the rebuilding of Copapayo, and to provide material aid and outside protection to the villagers of Copapayo. This organization worked closely with other activist organizations in Columbus in the 1980s and 1990s, coordinating to further shared and related goals.
