Biography/History

Donna was born August 11, 1932 to Richard and Alice (Fox) Hamilton in rural Sullivan County. She graduated from Trenton High School in 1950. After graduation Donna was united in marriage to Richard Ashenfelter July 18, 1950 in Chillicothe MO. The couple made their home in the Trenton area; to this union 2 children were born, Tracy and Kristin. Donna was a stay at home mom who delighted in caring for her family’s every need. After the children were grown she enrolled at Trenton Junior College for 2 years and transferred to Northeast Missouri State where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Special Education. She started her teaching profession at Linn County School where she taught for 5 years. Donna and Richard took a couple of years off and traveled all over the Midwest telling folk stories and weaving hickory baskets. Working together they held their audience captive making their stories come alive down to the smallest detail. Donna later took a position at Rissler Elementary in Trenton as the Librarian and dedicated 15 years of service. She loved being with the students and was always willing to go the extra mile. She later served as the Librarian at Grundy R-6 for 3 years.
