The collection contains audio tapes of Ozark folklore collected by Max F. Hunter, including fiddle tunes, jokes, sayings, songs, visits, and miscellaneous material. The collection also includes photocopies of lists, transcripts of songs, synopses, and indexes to the tapes.
The Max F. Hunter Collection consists of audio tapes and manuscript material documenting Ozark folklore. Included on the audio tapes are fiddle tunes, jokes, sayings, songs, visits, and miscellaneous material. The fiddle tunes, songs, and visits were taped by Hunter in the field. During these trips, Hunter also made notes of sayings and jokes that he heard; then at a later date, he gathered this material together and taped it. The miscellaneous material includes tapes given to Hunter, material taped from old records, and radio programs. Also included are items that do not pertain to Ozark folklore, but were of interest to Hunter.
