Scope and Content Note

The author describes The Blessingway, a Native American ceremony for welcoming an infant into the world, traditionally held on the new moon before the mother's due date. The ceremony blesses the pathway for the infant and mother through the birthing process and allows the mother's friends and family to express their support. Focuses more on social aspects of the event than the cultural context.
