Scope and Content NoteCollection includes 8 cassette tapes, a short biography of Marietta Herr, slides, correspondence from St. Charles Parish Councilwoman Darnell Abadie to the Parish Council, and promotional and news items from regional German institutions. Administrative/Biographical History Element
This New Populations Project was conducted by Laura Westbrook in 2006-2007. In addition to interviews conducted in community members' homes, Westbrook also documented activities at the German American Cultural Center in Gretna, the Deutsches Haus in New Orleans, the Deutsche Seemansmission in New Orleans, and the Deutsches Gesellschaft at Metairie Road Evangelical Church in Metairie. The resulting publication, "Getting to Gemütlichkeit: German History and Culture in Southeast Louisiana," is available on the Louisiana Folklife Program website.
