Immediate Source of Acquisition

During 2009-2012, Utah State University Library's Special Collections and Archives Division conducted oral histories with people involved in ranching and ranch support industries in four Intermountain west counties: Elko County, Nevada; Box Elder County, Utah; Cache County, Utah; and Rich County, Utah. The project was directed by Randy Williams, USU Fife Folklore Archives Curator and Oral History Specialist. Kevin Fuller-Martini, official photographer for the National Cowboy Poetry Collection in Elko, Nevada, suggested the project to Williams. As well, on a visit to USU Special Collections in the spring 2009, Elko Rancher Cliff Gardner discussed with Dan Davis, USU photo curator, his desire to collect the histories of Elko County ranchers. The interviews were conducted primarily by Randy Williams, with help from Cliff Gardner; Brad Cole and Dan Davis, USU Special Collections; Utah folklorists Elaine Thatcher and Lisa Duskin-Goede; and USU Folklore Graduate Student and SCA intern Rosa Thornley. The interviews were conducted from Summer 2009 to Spring 2012
