Summary
Sound Recordings consist of interviews with the folk artists, twelve conducted by James P. Leary (June-August 1993) and ten conducted by Mary Zwolinski (July-September 1993), and one commercial recording of the Badger Button Box Club, a button accordion band based in Milwaukee. All sound recordings consist of audiocassette tapes. James P. Leary’s interviews include Larry Wieberdink of Cedar Grove (wooden shoemaking), Manuel Reyes (with Jose Martinez) of Milwaukee (Puerto Rican wood and soap carving, poetry), Berta Mendez of Waukesha (Mexican piñatas and paper flowers), Laura Massart of Rosiere (Belgian pies and quilts), Betty Christenson of Suring (Ukrainian Easter eggs), Betty Carriveau Sherman of Oconto (French-Canadian storytelling), Priscilla Manders (Oneida storytelling and corn husk dolls), Pat Farrell of Green Bay (wooden canoes, carved decoys, and snowshoes), members of a Polish women’s group in Pulaski, Martha Wagner of Manitowoc (Czech feather work and baskets), Sidonka [Wadina] Lee of Lyons (Slovak straw plaiting, decorated eggs, and painted woodenware), and Xao Yang Lee of Sheboygan (Hmong needlework). Mary Zwolinski’s interviews include Inga Hermansen of Racine (Danish needlework), Eric Olesen of Racine (Danish baked goods), Kenneth Bruce of Franklin (Swedish woodcarving and painting), John Bambic of Milwaukee (Slovenian woodcarving), Elizabeth Keosian of Milwaukee (Armenian needlework), Albert Larsen of Bayview (Danish heart baskets), Harry Savagian (with Mike Savagian) of Milwaukee (Armenian rug making), Mirani Sammessian of Racine (Armenian needle lace), Seng Vanglo of Milwaukee (Hmong needlework), and a recording of a Slovenian harvest picnic in Racine County featuring the Echoes of Slovenia [accordion?] band.
