Summary
An annual event, the National Puerto Rican Day Parade is held along 5th Avenue in Manhattan. The parade was started in 1958, when Desfile Puerttoriqueno, Inc. held it in Harlem. The images in this collection are of people and events happening in 2000.,The Taino were the indiginous people of Puerto Rico. Some parade-goers and participants wear traditional Taino jewelry or accessories, or have spray painted signs and rocks with Taino petroglyphs
