Summary

Collection, 1987-2006, consisting of audio cassettes featuring interviews, field recordings, musical performances, memorials, and religious ceremonies from across Alabama. Cassettes of note include recordings of gospel groups; Primitive Baptist church services and funerals; white and African American Sacred Harp group sings; gospel conventions and meetings; and Sacred Harp conventions and meetings. Other field recordings document Mardi Gras traditions; folk art and folk work traditions; cemetery decoration day; quilts; and religious ceremonies.
