This collection was created by folklorist and author Joyce Cauthen while conducting research for the book and CD, Benjamin Lloyd’s Primitive Hymns. The recordings in the collection are of Primitive Baptist hymn church services, meetings, and sings.  The collection is significant because it captures archaic ways of preaching, praying and singing that were still prevalent in Primitive Baptist churches in Alabama in the 1990s when these recordings were made.
