The Missouri Arts Council and Missouri Folk Arts Program developed the Missouri Regional Community Scholars Workshop Series to support locally-based research and sustain Missouri’s network of folk arts constituents and advisors. The project consisted of workshops in West Plains, St. Louis, Springfield, Ava, Hannibal, Ste. Genevieve, and Mt. Vernon, MO, where participants learned about methods of documenting folk arts.
In 2012, MFAP hosted a Community Scholars Convening at the University of Missouri, inviting participants from past workshops, artists from around Missouri, and stakeholders from regional arts agencies to make connections and suggestions for further development of the Community Scholars Network. In 2015, the group also presented at the Missouri Folklore Society's annual meeting in Jefferson City, MIssouri.
The collection consists of physical and digital data, including audio, video, and stlll images, generated in association with the program and at workshops and meetings.
