Biography/History
Joseph Salmons is the Lester W.J. "Smoky" Seifert Professor of Germanic Linguistics. He holds a BA in Philosophy (UNC–Charlotte, 1978) and a PhD in Germanic Linguistics (University of Texas, 1984).  He is most recently author of A History of German: What the past reveals about today’s language (Oxford University Press, 2012) and co-editor, with Tom Purnell and Eric Raimy, of Wisconsin Talk: Linguistic diversity in the Badger State (University of Wisconsin Press, 2013).
