Summary
Interviews conducted during fieldwork in 2011-2012. Each of 33 separate fieldwork sessions consisted of group conversation and linguistic profiles, detailing the history of both the individual and the community. Interviewers spoke predominantly Standard German, while interviewees spoke a variety of different dialects, greatly influenced by - but 3 to 5 generations removed from - identifiable European dialects: Bavarian, Ripuarian, Rhenish, Darmstadt-Hessian, and the language of the Eiffel region. English was also spoken.

Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of 165 separate digital sound files, each ranging from 10 minutes to over 2 hours. These recordings were made on 33 separate fieldwork sessions spanning July 2011 to May 2012. Additionally, each session included an English-to-German translation task and a picture narration task. Some interviews included grammaticality judgments.
There are also 35 digital pictures taken at the St. John United Church of Christ in Germantown. Pictures include 19th and early 20th century German-language artifacts from the congregation, as well as pictures of the cornerstone, stained glass windows, and monuments. Digital pictures are housed with the digital recordings from January, 2012.
The collection also includes artifacts from the linguistic field researchers, including field trip reports, transcripts and elicitation materials.
