Summary
These interviews from 2008 and 2009 include free conversation, group conversation; interviewees’ story-telling, often about experiencing WWII in Europe, or growing up on a farm; and translations of Wenker sentences. Additional topics include life in a Frisian-speaking farm community in Wisconsin in the early- and mid-20th century. In both sessions, field researchers spoke English, while consultants spoke predominantly Frisian (WI-Frisian, Klaifrysk or Noardeasthoeksk dialect).

Scope and Content Note
The collection consists of 31 separate files of recorded Frisian. From the August 2008 session, there are six one-on-one conversations between the field researcher and the interviewee. The May 2009 session includes 11 sound files of group conversation, with roughly 8 to 12 speakers at one table; and one-on-one conversations with 6 different interviewees (some of which had also been recorded in 2008), including: linguistic profiles, reading of a list of tokens in a sentence frame, picture elicitation, and English-to-Frisian translation tasks. The May 2009 session also includes a recitation of the Lord’s Prayer in West Frisian.

In addition to the raw recordings, there are approximately 206 single tokens isolated from the recordings by Todd Ehresmann and Joshua Bousquette for phonetic analysis.
